How do you undercut a fire door? The full process

We cut the door itself rather than fight fire door closers, then check the clearance over the new floor.

The short answer

One of the questions we get asked is how we undercut fire doors, so I will take you through the process here. We have a fire door just here.

What we are going to use is a track saw. Here is my Festool plunge saw, and we are going to hook that up to the door and then cut that. That saves us having to deal with any of the fire door closers and speeds things up a little bit.

So first of all I am marking the door to our measurement, allowing for the thickness of the floor plus clearance. Then we cut it, put it back on, and we check that the flooring goes underneath the door.

So there we go. Nice clearance right there. And that is how we handle a fire door.
