What is an oiled floor?
A matte, natural looking finish with a lovely colour range, but it needs re-oiling to stay protected.
The short answer
The product I have right here is a UV oiled product. Once it has gone through a sanding process and the brushing process, it gets oiled, and then a UV light will cure the top of it, which means it can be packaged very quickly rather than stacked on top of each other until it is dried.
With this particular product you need to be super careful about maintenance. You need to re-oil it probably up to every six months, but that will all depend on how much traffic you have. If you have a dog that is drinking water from its bowl and spilling water onto it, you are going to get water stains unless you oil it regularly. Same in a kitchen, where you are cooking and oil is splattering onto the floor. To look after your floor the best, re-oil it as often as you need to, to protect it from those water marks and from that cooking.
You are probably asking why people go with oil floors. You get such a good colour range within the oil floors, and they look and feel great. This particular product is completely matte and looks like it has just been cut off a tree, compared to a lacquered product where you have got that sheen over it. But that sheen is what is protecting.
Oil floors are great, but be careful and make sure you are maintaining them.
