What underlay should I choose?

Density is the whole difference. A dense felt outlasts foam and protects the joints in the boards.

The short answer

If you are getting your flooring, whether it is a laminate or a timber, and you are wanting to float it, you are going to require an underlay. There are two main underlays: foam, and felt.

The main difference between your foam one and your felt one is the density. So if you have got an 8mm laminate, for example, and you are putting it over something like this, it is not going to last as long as you want it to. Because when you compress this over time, it will stay compressed. And those joints in the laminate are going to be more tested.

If you have got something dense like this, it is quite hard underfoot, so you are protecting the joints of the product.

I highly recommend that you get something that is going to outlast the product that you are putting on top of it. The Timber Tex felt, the one that we have got here, is going to be the product that lasts longer than any other underlay. And I highly recommend that you put this one down under all your products.
