What is the difference between a brushed and a smooth finish?

Brushed hides scratches and suits kids and pets. Smooth and glossy suits a more formal, elegant room.

The short answer

This product here is smooth. It has been sanded to a nice finish and the lacquer has gone over the top of it, to make it quite semi-gloss to a gloss product.

The brushed product here has gone through a wire brush process, taking out all the soft oak in the plank. Then it has been given its lacquer. The lacquer has gone into the grain and it looks like a matte finish.

That would be great if you have got animals or young kids, or high wear areas. Whereas your polished is for very elegant houses, where you want to see smooth, shiny, glossy finishes.
