What do I do with an uneven floor?
Timber can go over a sloping floor as long as it is flat. It is the dips and gullies we have to fix.
The short answer
There are two terms that we use: flat, and level. Now we can install timber over a floor that is not level, as long as the gradient is the same throughout. What we do not want to do is have gullies in your floor. If we put a straight edge down of two metres in length and a pound coin slides underneath it, then we need to do some levelling.
If you have got an old tenement building, we can lay a thin ply over the top of that. That takes out any of the undulations and we go straight over the top of that.
If you have a concrete subfloor and it is quite uneven, we would put a screed down. We have also got diamond grinders to take any high spots off as well.
